Bend testing

The test serves as a simple bench test for approximate checking of the chosen welding data. In the test, the weld is subjected to bending in an undefined manner. If arc blow or another visible imperfection is suspected, the stud shall be bent in a manner such that the area to be examined is in the tension zone. This can be done by one of the two following methods.
  1. The studs are bent through 60° using drawn arc stud welding with ceramic ferrule or shielding gas, or short-cycle drawn arc stud welding, through 30° using capacitor discharge stud welding with tip ignition or capacitor discharge drawn arc stud welding(see the following figure)
  2. The studs are stressed by applying a bending moment below the elastic limit
Note: Values of bending moments for studs by applications > 100 °C are given in following Table

Symbols and Abbreviated terms in ISO13918:2008

There are 21 symbols and abbreviated terms in ISO13918:2008(E), today I’ll show you their meaning, hope it can help you understanding the standards.
Some guys normally can’t understand the meaning of drawing of shear stud because of the symbols and abbreviated terms in ISO13918, as a matter of fact, it it easy to remember. Now please see the following:
b   length of the thread
Cd  depth of the crack in the head
d1  nominal diameter
d2  diameter at the weld area
d3  diameter of the weld collar
d4  diameter of the tip
d5  head diameter of headed studs
D6  internal thread diameter
D7  nominal diameter of the ceramic ferrule
d8  grip diameter
d9  base diameter of the ceramic ferrule
h1  height of the frange
h2  height of the ceramic ferrule
h3  height of the head on headed stud
h4  height of the weld collar
h5  height of the unthreaded part of stud types PS and PT
l1  overall length of the stud(excluding aluminum ball or welding tip)
l2  nominal length of the stud
l3  length of the welding tip
y  length of the unthreaded part
α face angle
Our shear stud and ceramic ferrules are produced as per the ISO13918 standard, and we can also produce as per customer’s requirement, any more questions, pls click here to know more.
